At Classic Lifts, we often say that our people are what make the difference — and with this story that couldn’t be truer.
We recently received a heartfelt email from a member of the public who wanted to share an extraordinary story about one of our team members, Tony Pickard, a Repair Engineer based in our London branch.
Just four weeks into his new role with Classic Lifts, Tony was travelling on the M25 when he witnessed a car break down in the third lane of traffic. Inside were a mother, her two-year-old daughter, and her five-year-old disabled son — stranded in an incredibly dangerous situation.
Without hesitation, Tony pulled over, held back the traffic, and safely helped the family out of their vehicle and away from danger. His quick thinking, professionalism, and calm manner quite literally saved their lives.
In her message to Classic Lifts, the grateful mother wrote:
“Out of nowhere the most amazing man from your company pulled over and heroically helped hold the traffic whilst he rescued me and both my children from sitting in our car, bound to be hit and no doubt killed. He was beyond professional and caring and quite frankly saved our lives. He is an absolute asset to your company and you should be proud to employ someone as selfless and heroic as this wonderful man who helped us.”
Tony’s son, Alfie, who works alongside him as his assistant, was also there at the time — a truly remarkable example of teamwork and courage.
Reflecting on the story, Ben Wright, Service Division Director, said:
“This needs celebrating and really shows the calibre of our team. Tony’s actions embody exactly what we stand for at Classic Lifts — professionalism, compassion, and doing the right thing, even when it’s far beyond the job description. I’ve told him to take his wife out for dinner and put the bill in — we’ll pay for it!”
We are incredibly proud to have Tony and Alfie as part of the Classic Lifts family. Their bravery and kindness are an inspiration to us all.
