Full modernisation of the right hand lift at Littlemoor House, Oldham.
Tenants are ‘lifted’ into the New Year by First Choice Homes Oldham
Delighted tenants at Littlemoor House in Huddersfield Road, Oldham, have had their spirits elevated by their landlord after their lift was given a well-earned revamp in time for the New Year.
First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) decided to refurbish the lift as part of a full refurbishment scheme at Littlemoor House, making it the fourth major lift refurbishment the organisation has completed over the last three years to its high rise tower blocks.
The previous three lift refurbishments were carried out at Rountree House, Summervale House and Crossbank House, which are all situated on Manchester Road
Tenants were kept up-to-date with the programme of works through regular residents’ meetings held by the housing management team and have commented on what a positive difference it has made.
The lift performance has virtually doubled by increased speed and energy saving features which will reduce daily energy consumption and carbon emissions by as much as 50-60%. As well as having an improved carbon footprint, the life span of the new lift is also 20 years.
Resident Peggy Swithenbank said: “The work has been brilliant. A good team effort, they have always been on hand to help.”
Adrian Crane, Regional Director of Classic Lifts, added: “Modernising the lift at Littlemoor House was a challenging task especially due to the short time-scale and the fact that the building was occupied.
“Our team managed to complete the job ahead of schedule which was a really good achievement, especially as we needed to increase the size and speed of the lift as part of the works.
“The information passed to the residents has been key to the success of the project and it was pleasing to be able to give them their new lift ready for Christmas and the New Year.”
Following FCHO’s stock condition survey, it was found that replacement parts for the lift at Littlemoor House were becoming difficult to source, coupled with a high volume of breakdowns.
Cath Green, FCHO’s Chief Executive, said: “The new lift has been given enhanced safety features as well as benefiting the environment through reduced carbon emissions.
“We are very pleased that the lift modernisation project exceeded resident expectation by finishing ahead of schedule. The ride quality is also much better when compared to the old lift.”
